HYDRA-PRESS OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
IMPORTANT !!! SOME BOW MANUFACTURERS RECOMMEND BACKING OUT THE LIMB BOLTS BEFORE COMPRESSING THE BOW IN A BOW PRESS. YOU SHOULD REFER TO YOUR BOW'S MANUAL AND/OR CONTACT THE BOW MANUFACTURER FOR EXACT SPECS. THIS IS RECOMENDED BY SOME BOW MANUFACTURERS TO KEEP RISER STRESS TO A MINIMUM.
ALWAYS WEAR SAFETY GLASSES WHILE OPERATING YOUR PRESS.
- It is recommended that the Hydra-Press be secured to a flat work surface such as a table or work bench before using. Position the front edge of the Press so that it overhangs the front of the work surface by 1/4 to 1/2 inch. Secure the press to the work surface with 2 screws through the mounting holes located in the back of the legs.
- Assemble the Hyda-Press by attaching the swing arms to the main frame with the hinge pins provided. Now the press is ready for operation.
Compressing the bows limbs.
- Position the 2 rollers on the main frame (riser rollers) so that they make contact with the bow's riser as close to the limb bolts as possible. NOTE: If necessary these rollers can be moved all the way out to the "pivot points" of the press (where the swing arms attach to the main frame) and the roller shafts can act as the hinge pins. This will give you approx. 22.25 inches center to center distance of the riser rollers on the main frame.
- Position the outside rollers located on the Hydra-Press swing arms, to make contact with the bows limbs as close to the cam/idler wheel as possible but without coming in contact with the cam and/or idler wheel.
- With the rollers now in the correct positions, place the bow in the Hydra-Press. Next, minimize the slack in the Hydra-Press cable by removing the cable from the cable guide and raising the cable guide by turning it in a counter-clockwise motion. The cable guide should be raised just high enough to allow the cable to be easily slipped back in place in the cable guide's groove.
- Close the valve on the jack by turning clockwise with the slot in the end of the jack handle. An adjustable wrench can also be used to close/open the valve if preferred. Now slowly pump the jack to start compressing the bow's limbs until all pressure has been taken off the bow's string and cable.
Decompressing/Relaxing The Bow
- Hold the center of the bow string with your left hand and apply pressure upward making certain that ALL STRINGS & CABLES are well seated in the proper channels of the cams and/or idler wheels. With pressure still being applied to the bow string with your left hand, relax the press by SLOWLY turning the valve on the jack counter clockwise until the jack starts to retract and the bow starts to relax. Once the jack has fully retracted, remove the bow from the rollers.
